A French Empire Style Ebonised Sofa with Fine Eagle Head Mounts.
This fine sofa, in the early 19th century Empire style, was made in France c.1910. The ebonised finish contrasts beautifully with the fine ormolu mounts, including acanthus leaf designs, hoof feet, round paterae and, most striking of all, chased eagles' heads to the ends of the arms. The quality of the mounts indicates that this was produced by an important workshop of the period. Ready to be upholstered.
