This work depicts a shepherdess resting, surrounded by her flock of sheep. The woman balances her long stick with both hands and her head resting on it. Dressed in springtime attire, she wears a tall, gray headdress. The hue of these clothes contrasts with the deep green of the pastures, the sea and the sky.
The subject of the shepherdess and her sheep, a theme addressed in numerous works, is treated here with a pronounced play of luminosity.
The painting features a gilded frame in the Empire Restoration style, carved with foliage and florets.
