Vintage 1930’s English Art Deco Asprey & Co. Silver Plate Hot Milk/Water Jug With Monogram.
This is an early 20th century silver plate hot milk or hot water jug from the prestigious London Silversmith Asprey and Company. Asprey, founded in 1781, is an iconic British luxury brand. The pot is quite mid century modern in style despite having been made in the 1930’s. The exquisitely hinged lid opens by pushing down on the ebonized ‘coffee bean’.
The condition is good for the age with some scratches but no dents. There is a slight bit of tarnish and the interior shows that it was used. The Jug has an engraved monogram on the front of “AMC”.
The jug measures 5.5 inches to the lid, 6.75 inches including the top bean knob. The base is about 3.25 inches in diameter.
The hallmark reads: “A&Co Asprey London 2 and an imprinted Horsehead”.
This highly stylish piece provides a unique luxurious way to have your hot milk with your coffee or hot water for your tea!
The 20s and 30s were a golden age for Asprey. It embraced the new style, now known as ‘Art Deco’ but then called ‘moderne’ or ‘Jazz modern’, introduced by the Paris Exposition de Arts Décoratifs in 1925. Its iconic designs reflect the new energy and originality, Asprey’s catalogues of this era are beautiful anthologies of luxury goods. It was the age of the cocktail and Asprey embraced this, creating unique, iconic pieces.
The Jug weighs 12.84 ounces or 364 grams.
