Oil painting on canvas, within coeval gilded wood frame.
The work attributed to the painter GIUSEPPE NUVOLONE (Milan, 1619 - 1703) is accompanied by a critical card by Prof. Maurizio Marini, art historian.
Canvas size cm 110 x 82.5
Frame size cm 144.5 x 117.5 x 5.5
The canvas is characterized by the affectionate crossing of glances and the gesture full of tenderness that the Child Jesus addresses to Joseph, with his left hand going to caress his beard, while his right hand holds a lily branch, a Marian emblem that somehow takes the place of the Virgin. The painting can be likened to the production of Giuseppe Nuvolone as indicated by comparison with other works of similar subject matter by his hand, such as St. Joseph with Child, Milan, Pinacoteca del Castello Sforzesco or the Holy Family in the Molinari-Pradelli collection, Marano di Castenaso (Bologna).
