Floor-standing ashtrays became exceptionally popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries as smoking transitioned into a refined social ritual in affluent homes and private clubs. Makers in Europe and America produced elaborate smoking stands in styles ranging from Neoclassical Revival to Art Deco, utilizing heavy metals and fine hardwoods. These statement pieces were designed for drawing rooms and smoking parlors to provide both utility and decorative elegance. Today, they are prized by collectors of tobacciana and vintage interior accessories. See less
