Mont ventoux is the highest peak in provence, not far from orange and avignon and the well known wine towns of the southern rhone valley. It has gained fame through its inclusion in the tour de france cycling race. The top of the mountain is bare limestone without vegetation or trees, which makes the mountain's barren peak appear from a distance to be snow-capped year round. Wines have also been made here since the 1st century ad and have been consumed by popes and kings throughout the centuries. Today their wines are once again very in demand. I n this depiction, the artist captures the bare mountain top beyond the view of a vineyard and traditional stone winemaker's home. In very good overall condition.
