Mont ventoux is the highest peak in provence, not far from orange and avignon and the well known wine towns of the southern rhone valley. It has gained fame through its inclusion in the tour de france cycling race. The top of the mountain is bare limestone without vegetation or trees, which makes the mountain's barren peak appear from a distance to be snow-capped year round. Wines have also been made here since the 1st century ad and have been consumed by popes and kings throughout the centuries. Today their wines are once again very in demand. I n this depiction, the artist captures the bare mountain top beyond the view of a vineyard and traditional stone winemaker's home. In very good overall condition. In a new tray frame and signed by the artist in the lower left. About the artist : michel margueray (born 1938) is an artist whose strength of character and pictorial charisma allow him to express in his paintings his love of nature, his passion for forms and his will to demonstrate the poetic transcription, the interpretation of his daily observations. Seascapes or landscapes, margueray's works bear that power of evocation that sublimates reality by providing it with an authenticity that goes straight to the heart. With rigorous feel, highly elaborate draftsmanship and well-structured compositions, margueray demonstrates in each canvas, whatever its dimension or theme, the feelings and emotions his subject inspired. The quality of his work, the special light that floods his paintings, his magnificent interpretation of reality observed, make of margueray an artist whose work has satisfied the most difficult of collectors and art-lovers over the years. Margueray is like a reporter of everyday life. He expresses himself by showing us simple but grandiose events of day-to-day life or of nature, making us rediscover what we thought we already knew, drawing our attention on forgotten details or scenes that we simply look through (ref: patrice de la perrière, 2005).
