this is just a great original piece. Sometimes I find some unique items in some unique places. I was just in maine and I stopped in with a dealer I do some business with and he offered me 2 original paintings of the hotel del coronado in san diego. California paintings in maine. Go figure. They came from an estate who spent many of their significant family events at the hotel and had these hanging in their houses. This one was the main reason I bought them. I have had one other painting by clarence attridge in the past. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included his biography below. This is probably the best attridge painting I have seen. A wonderful acrylic on board view of the hotel with all the sailboats in the water and the city looming in the background. Painting measures 11 3/4 x 15 3/4 inches. Signed lower right. Painting is in outstanding as painted condition. Archival double matte and wood frame is really complimentary and ready to hang. Just a great presentation. Frame measures 17 3/4 x 21 3/4 inches. If you collect items related to the hotel or san diego, check my store for the other one I am offering. A great pair of paintings that would look great hung together.
For those not familiar with the artist his biography from askart reads: "Clarence F. Attridge was born in New York on January 20, 1907. Prior to moving to the San Diego, California area he lived in Rochester, New York. He received his initial art training from the Mechanics Institute (now the Rochester Institute of Technology). After art school Attridge worked for many years as a scenic artist painting scenes for theatres on Broadway. He also designed and painted murals for churches, theatres, and for the homes of people of influence. For years Attridge was an art teacher, teaching fundamentals of landscape, seascape and abstract painting. He exhibited widely in San Diego and Southern California, winning many awards in the venues in which he exhibited his works. He has appeared on local Public Television demonstrating his art and techniques. His works are held in collections worldwide. At this time of his death on October 5, 1992 he was living in Oceanside, California (North of San Diego)."
