Handwoven in wool circa 1910-1920, this item is a rare antique Persian tribal salt bag, once used to store salt for cooking and for migration purposes by nomadic tribes.
On the Design:
The center of the piece is a hand-knotted 1x1 square, with braided tassels in vibrant colors extending out. The ‘field’ favors rich brown and burgundy tones with colorful geometric patterns, and keen eyes will note many of the same vibrant accents in the tassels and textural fringe. It’s a rich piece of history and a gorgeous collectible in primitive art—teeming with the personal nature and whimsy that distinguishes similar Persian rugs and Kilims of its period.
Condition:
This antique textile further enjoys good condition for its age and origin. It’s best suited to wall-hanging projects and similar projects calling for decorative works or even statement pieces.
