During the Second World War, the physician Wendel G. Scott drew attention to the problem of the lack of suitable leg splints for the war wounded. The married couple Ray Kaiser Eames (1912 - 1988) and Charles Eames (1907 - 1978) worked together since 1941 on the technique for three-dimensional deformation of plywood. These experiments resulted in 1942 in the so-called "Leg Splints" plywood leg splints, which were used to treat injured soldiers. The shape of the splint met two important criteria: The injured leg was comfortably supported and the splint was stackable, which was important for logistics. Several thousand were produced by Evans Products. However, only a few were used in the war. The Eames "Leg Splints" document the first attempts of the two designers to deform plywood and are therefore considered the origin of the later Plywood Furniture series. Today, the sculptural "Leg Splints" plywood leg splints are popular collector's items. Our example is in perfect condition. Length 105cm. This piece has an attribution mark,

Cancellations

- Chairish Express In-Home deliveries are currently only offered for international cross-border shipments.

- Deliveries can take anywhere from 6 to 9 weeks to be delivered.
- Chairish Freight Delivery
- Delivered in a crate, to your front door.
- You will need tools and/or equipment to open the crate.

- Chairish Freight deliveries can take anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks.

- Chairish In-Home Delivery
