Early 19th century Primitive Antique PA painted (faux grained) blanket/storage chest - footed 1820-1840 - Features a molded rectangular top … Read more Early 19th century Primitive Antique PA painted (faux grained) blanket/storage chest - footed 1820-1840 - Features a molded rectangular top enclosing a dovetailed box - interior compartment known as the 'ditty box' & hand turned bun feet. The 'ditty box' was often used to store scented candles or soap to add a lovely fragrance to the blankets & clothing stored. Paint is original. The handles on either side are later. Tulip poplar. These wonderful chests are not just for storage anymore as they make fabulous coffee tables. Just add a glass topper larger than the chest & you have a great coffee table & a conversation piece. The painted faux finish is original. The back left side bun foot has a chip but still sturdy. structurally sound. In overall good condition. Again, this would make a wonderful side of coffee table with a glass topper. This is a piece of American History. less
