This photograph taken by Warren Michaels Photography in 2005 on the Masai Mara during The Great Migration. The Great Migration is the largest animal migration in the world. Every year, over 2 million animals (wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle) migrate clockwise across the Serengeti (Tanzania) and Masai Mara (Kenya) ecosystems. The migration is dictated by the rains and food sources (grasses).
The herds of zebras, wildebeests, and gazelles enter the Masai Mara and are met by more than their fair share of lethal predators. Aside from the threat of the big cats, the herds are also faced with over 3000 crocodiles lurking in the murky waters of the Mara River during their river crossing.
The migration cause deaths to about 250,000 wildebeests and 32,000 zebras every year.
