The … Read more Hand-carved in France, circa 1880, this wooden bracket console features a wonderfully executed winged angel beneath an angular entablature. The innocent visage of the cherub is augmented by the downward gaze, as he supports an arched molding above his head. Both wings of the angel are displayed, flanked by linenfold curtains that hang down from the arched molding. The angel is depicted as a half body carving, with his upper body rising from a magnificently sculpted acanthus cup. Behind the angel is a highly shaped molding with beveled edges (most likely not original). The shelf has a quarter round rim over a four-tiered step molding, which reduces the linear nature of the entablature (also probably added more recently. Our carved angel has a lovely cream color and can be used in any room of the house as a functional wall bracket console. It would also make a fantastic decorative accessory. See less
