Low table by designer Svante Skogh for Seffle Mobelfarik Teak made in Sweden in 1960s
Good Condition
Svante Skogh was a Swedish interior architect and furniture designer. He was active during a period when the Scandinavian furniture industry was flourishing, with many famous designers and manufacturers in circulation, and with IKEA as a new player in the market. The big names were therefore many, and Svante Skogh was somewhat overlooked during his time, despite many solid designs.
He was diligent in his search for suitable collaborations, and advertised in trade journals for suitable furniture manufacturers who were interested in realising his many designs. The Seffle Furniture Factory is behind many of his productions, while other manufacturers did not give him credit. With a trained eye, you can therefore find Svante Skogh's stylish designs all over the country, mainly produced in the Småland region, where he lived for many years.
Skogh's work consists mainly of upholstered seating. In the fashion of the 1950s and 1960s, teak furniture was common, but his furniture is just as often made of beech, birch, mahogany, jakaranda, French walnut, rosewood and rich woods. The original upholstery is often made of foam rubber.
Some of his most famous works are the Bodö series (1957), consisting of armchairs and sofas for Seffle, with clear angular lines and exposed leather straps. Other models include the elegantly curved 775 Lounge Chair (1954) for OPE, and the Cortina series (1960s) for Seffle, comprising a sideboard, dining table and dining chairs.
