French Bouillotte lamp with its original painted black and gold tole shade. This beautiful lamp has a circular brass base with elaborate cut out intertwined detail. Encircling the top of the base is a pie crust design. The brass detail continues up the lamp pole ending in a circular brass leaf design. The iron lamp pole continues in an octagon shape. Extending from the top of the pole are three iron candelabra scroll leaf arms, each arm extends out to hold wax candles. The lamp base is 6 inch diameter and a 16 inch diameter lamp shade.
Bouillotte is a card game that became popular in France during the 18th & 19th centuries. For light, they would use a bouillotte lamp. This particular one is brass and iron with 3 candelabra arms with wax candles . As the candles would burn down one would use a key, where the shade connects the middle shaft, to lower the shade as the candles burned down. Allowing the players to be free of glare. Recently rewired by a professional for the US using UL listed parts.
