Artist’s Biography:
Knud Ejnar Horup was born on May 22nd of 1926. He was a Danish painter best known for his modernist approach to Scandinavian landscapes settings. Horup attended the Århus Tekniske Skole (Technical School) in Århus and then the Hovedskous School of Painting (Hovedskous målarskola) in Gothenburg. Horup's solo exhibitions were well-received by both critics and collectors. Horup's group exhibitions include Ung Kunst (Young Art) in Århus (1951) and the annual Artist's Autumn Exhibition (Kunstnernes Efterårsudstilling) held at the Charlottenborg Palace in Copenhagen in 1952 and 1953. The Danish artists association's Den Frie Udstilling (The Free Exhibition) held annually at Østerbrogade, Copenhagen in 1952. In 1955 Horup exhibited at the newly restored Aalborghallen in Aalborg, Denmark and in 1956 he was invited to exhibit at the Exhibition of Danish Crafts and Crafts (Den Permanente) in the Vesterbrogade district of Copenhagen.

Horup was also a motorsports enthusiast and as an amateur rally driver who frequented the training track near Hvidsten in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He was very proud of his Austin Healey 3000 which he bought in 1962 from the driver Gunnar Andersen.

There are two small specks on … moreThis original, midcentury oil on canvas is in very good condition for its age. There are two small specks on the canvas (one in the lake, and one in the yellow foreground) which appear to be original to the painting as opposed to surface stains - please zoom in for closer look. These specks are faint and do not distract from the beauty of this painting… I just mention them to be thorough in my description. There are two subtle areas of canvas showing through the paint: near the edges of the canvas in the hills and in the sky. This is not paint loss but rather it is consistent with Horup’s painting style. I have have owned or seen many of his paintings with similar paint application. The frame show signs of wear consistent with its age including small chips, dents and scratches - see second last photo for a close-up. less
