This work depicts a shepherdess leading her flock of sheep to pasture. The woman, holding a young lamb in one arm and pulling up her skirt with the other, is leading her livestock through a shallow marsh.

The subject of the shepherdess with sheep, which has been addressed in numerous works, is treated here with a very pronounced play of light. The flock emerges from the darkness of the forest and heads towards the plains and mountains visible in the background, to graze there for many months.
This painting has a golden frame, carved with scrolls, acanthus flowers and friezes.

This oil painting will appeal to lovers of finely executed art.
