Triumph is an original contemporary acrylic on canvas painting that uses a restricted palette of black and white to create stark figure/ground contrast. Painted with sincere and focused energy the strength of the painting lies in its directness and confidence. Using a rubber pottery tool, the paint is slowly pulled across the surface to create different types of mark-making that would otherwise not be able to be reproduced with a brush. The somewhat unpredictable moments this tool makes keep the creative process fresh and allows for more interesting decisions to be made throughout. Being active as an artist for 15+ years Higgins has continuously explored ideas of tension, balance, and figure/ground relationship in his work. Always trying to exercise restraint in his work, his paintings are completed with both an efficient and economical vocabulary of mark-making and shapes. Something that can only be achieved through years of practice and many iterations.
Matt Higgins b. 1987 is an artist and art professor who lives and works in Philadelphia, Pa.
He maintains a regular studio practice in the Fishtown neighborhood focusing primarily on abstract styles of painting but sometimes dabbling in text-based paintings, landscapes, or other genres of painting.
His work is included in numerous private collections and has been included in a wide range of interior design projects including residential properties, corporations, and hotels.

Orders where Free Local Pickup or Seller Managed Local Delivery were selected:
- Upon inspection, If you decide not to move forward with the purchase, you or your agent must refuse the item at the time of pickup/delivery from the seller
- Once you have taken possession of the item, all sales are final
- International, cross-border returns may require different processes depending on the countries between which the item is shipping to/from, and the buyer is responsible and duties (if applicable, on cross-border orders).
- On approved returns, the buyer is responsible for the full cost of return packing and shipping.
Cancellations
- Prior to shipping or local pickup, buyers may cancel an order for any reason, with the exception of some Made-to-Order items, where supplies have been purchased or work begun on the item.
