To cover a rectangular 6-foot—or 72-inch-long—table you will need a tablecloth measuring 90 inches by 132 inches. (Put into feet that’s 7.5 feet by 11 feet.) A tablecloth of this size allows for a drop of approximately 9 inches on each side of your table, giving it a polished appearance. A drop of 9 inches allows about 20 inches of uncovered space between the hem and floor. If desired, a 9 inch overhang is also long enough to allow you the option to tuck the edges under the table and secure the tablecloth in place. In the event you want a shorter drop, you can use a 90-inch by 120-inch tablecloth. This will result in an approximately 6-inch overhang on each side. To pick the best fitting tablecloth for your needs, it’s worth considering your desired aesthetic as well as the functionality. A longer tablecloth drop, for instance, can inhibit guests’ movements.
