A pedestal table is a particular style of table that is supported by a single center support — i.e. “a pedestal” — rather than three or four individual legs. The pedestal portion is typically shaped like a pole, column, or plinth that supports the tabletop, providing stability and balance.

These versatile tables can be found in a wide array of shapes and sizes. Whether you’re looking for something small like a round bistro table or something much larger like a dining table, it’s possible to find pedestal tables to fit the bill. Additionally, they can be crafted from virtually any material, including wood, metal, glass, or marble.

Pedestal tables can be sourced in many different styles, from traditional to modern, making them an inspired choice for virtually any room. Perhaps the most iconic version is the Saarinen table, designed by Eero Saarinen for Knoll. Also known as the “Tulip table,” this modern pedestal dining table features a fluted aluminum pedestal that terminates in a round base.

One reason designers are particularly fond of these tables is that they can be incorporated into spaces where a traditional, four-legged table would be difficult fit, such as a small dining room, or a breakfast nook. The central pedestal also provides more legroom around the table as compared to a four-legged table.
