What is a dry bar?

A dry bar is either a built-in or freestanding unit that is designed to house alcohol and other barware accessories. Unlike a bar cart, a dry bar is not mobile, but a stationary piece designed to reside in one room. Unlike a wet bar, which is a built-in piece outfitted with a sink to aid in drink preparation, a dry bar is constructed without any plumbing. Whether a dry bar is built-in or freestanding, it is more than likely to come equipped with a series of drawers, shelves, or compartments to organize bar tools, bottles, and glassware. Many designs also factor in hanging space for items such as wine glasses. Dry bars can come in any style, but they are frequently designed to be very lavish items outfitted in lavish materials like leather, inlaid bone, brass, or lacquer. Faux finishes designed to look like these materials are also common. Built-in dry bars tend to be a bit more pared-down, often featuring stained wood construction.
