As 2018 is drawing to a close, we’re feeling all kinds of nostalgia for the weeks and months gone by. Well, mostly for all the fabulous design we’ve seen over the last twelve months. We love a celeb home tour, a smartly appointed boutique, or an eye-catching hotel, but this year, restaurants have really stepped up their game. We’re not saying these interiors should dictate your 2019 travel plans, but no judgement if these stunning spots for scoring a good meal have you perusing flights. Here are six of the most beautiful restaurants we spotted in 2018, where it’s not just the food that’s drool-worthy.
Dalloway Terrace, London
Spectacular climbing florals against a timeless cabana stripe dominate the cozy interior of London restaurant, Dalloway Terrace. Situated inside the Dalloway Hotel in London’s Bloomsbury neighborhood, they serve an elevated British menu against an ever-changing living backdrop (their flora rotates with the seasons), making this hotel restaurant an exceptionally Instagram-able spot!
Duck Duck Goat, Chicago
The only thing punchier than the emerald green walls is the name of the place itself: Duck Duck Goat. Located in Chicago, this Chinese-American restaurant touts itself as serving “reasonably authentic Chinese food.” But its homey yet wholly chic dining room is certainly garnering its own buzz. Shocks of color and charming chachkis galore, the interior strikes a balance between a Wes Anderson fever dream and your local family run Chinese joint. We bet you won’t opt for take out from this delectable Windy City spot.
Sanderson Hotel, London
The London hospitality scene is churning out some brilliant design, as evidenced by another entry from a hotel in the British capital. We can’t get enough of the eyeful that is the Long Bar within the Sanderson Hotel in the bustling West End. At 80 feet in length, their stunning onyx bar top is lined with barstools sporting a particularly memorable graphic: each seat features a uniquely illustrated eye. With blossoms and leafy tendrils dripping from the ceiling, there is certainly plenty to look at while enjoying happy hour.
Le Train Bleu, Paris
Hop aboard the EuroStar and say bonjour to Le Train Bleu. You’ll need to pick your jaw up after you learn this is a restaurant within a Parisian train station. The building was originally constructed for the World’s Fair of 1900 and became a full time restaurant in 1963. Since then, it’s been cooking up traditional French cuisine underneath arresting panels of murals, gilt moldings, and ornate chandeliers. We’ll take un verre de vin and pretend we’ve stepped back in time to La Belle Epoque!
La Palma, Toronto
Swaths of marble cover the countertop and bright white tiled chevron adorn the walls of the airy Italian eatery, La Palma. This lightness is complemented by pastel upholstery, modern streaked wallpaper, and brass-dipped hardware to create a slightly tropical vibe despite its being located in downtown Toronto. We wouldn’t mind carb-loading while soaking in this SoCal-cool atmosphere.
Bakeri, Brooklyn
Our final gorgeous restaurant is Bakeri located in Brooklyn, NY. As the name would suggest, they specialize in pumping out delicious baked goods from their Williamsburg kitchen. But it wasn’t a pastry that put them on this list, rather their illustrious flora/fauna wallpaper paired with delightfully distressed wooden furniture. The well-loved farm table and mismatched chairs invite customers to linger over their croissants and coffee, while vintage light fixtures only add to the cozy, rustic ambiance.
Ok, now we’re hungry.
