Sensational Sunroom Ideas

Round dining table with matching green dining chairs in sunroom with paper globe light

Longer daylight hours are nearly here, meaning more time to enjoy the sun — while still staying indoors, of course. If you’re fortunate enough to have a sunroom or enclosed porch, spring is certainly the time to start making use of it. See how some of our favorite designers made the spaces sing with natural materials like wicker and rattan, colorful decor, and enviable outdoor views.

Design: Brockschmidt & Coleman. Photo: Max Kim-Bee.

A soft palette of greens and cream and a traditional Rose Tarlow chintz turn this pretty solarium by Brockschmidt & Coleman into a year-round garden in Greenwich, Connecticut. Casual painted pieces and charming touches of flora and fauna blend the indoors and outdoors in a welcoming way.

Design: K Kong Designs. Photo: Mali Azima.

K Kong Designs let color be king in this Atlanta sunroom. Pink cushions for the sofa and armchairs are mirrored in the thick trim of the window treatments, while shades of black and white in the floor lamp, cocktail table, and oversized pillows offer some contrast to the bolder colors.

Design: Kati Curtis Design. Photo: Scott Frances.

With sensitivity to the architecture of this New Jersey home, the Kati Curtis Design team integrated their clients’ contemporary lifestyle with classic details: dark wood floors were lightened, as was the outdated dark woodwork. Furniture choices supported all-season living, and coming from Manhattan, open space was of paramount importance (of course).

Design: Elizabeth Krueger Design. Photo: Mike Schwartz.

For the sunroom of this historic Highland Park house, the team at Elizabeth Krueger Design worked to ensure that the sunroom would coordinate with the overall home design. The sophisticated yet restrained color palette paired with the rest of the home so that the space would flow well — but with a greater abundance of natural light, of course.

Contemporary furnishings including a leather daybed (bottom) provide a perfect place for an afternoon break in this stunning sunroom by Hendrick Interiors. The modern architecture in this Washington, DC home is softened by the natural materials and a custom Mongolian cashmere carpet.

This softly colorful sunroom by Debbie Mathews Antiques & Designs creates a real sense of joy. Pastel yellows from the table lamp and throw pair with the soft blues of the pillows and tray to create a calming, happy ambiance that’s right for any season.

Design: Far Studio. Photo: Brian Wetzel.

Creative geometry plays a major role in this chic sunroom by Pennsylvania-based Far Studio. The curve of the windows is matched by the circular dining table and the rounded edges of the lounge chair, while the lines of the arched wood-beamed ceiling are repeated in the rug and the brickwork by the fireplace.

Design: Chauncey Boothby Interiors. Photo: Read McKendree.

The blue-and-white palette of this coastal porch by Chauncey Boothby Interiors is a perfect pairing for the water views in the distance. The design team mixed and matched different textures and colors to emulate the rest of the home and provide visual variety.

Design: Kim Armstrong Interior Design. Photo: Michael Hunter.

This sunroom by Kim Armstrong Interior Design smartly blends the restrained white and grey palette of the painted brick walls and ceiling with colorful furnishings. The florals in the artwork carry through to the upholstered armchairs while the table lamps add additional dashes of vibrancy.

Design: Kristen Elizabeth Design. Photo: Rikki Snyder.

Kristen Elizabeth Design created a modern sunroom above the trees with this sleek, light-filled space. White and grey furnishings combine with lightly colored wood floors for a subdued, sophisticated effect that keeps all eyes on the floor-to-ceiling windows and expansive views.

A restrained palette lets nature do the talking in this traditional sunroom with brick floors and white ceiling beams by Period Architecture. White furniture and cabinetry allow colorful flowers and the greenery just outside to take center stage.

Design & Photo: Marjorie Skouras

At Casa Pistache in Merida, Mexico, Marjorie Skouras Design created a porch that is a refuge from the sun. Plentiful plants provide the shade and a touch of the natural world, while a pair of rocking chairs and wooden bench offer visitors a place to relax and take in the scenery.
