5 Chic Storage Tips for the Living Room

Modern Living Room Built-in Bookcase with Open Shelves and Closed Storage

Are you waging a storage war in your living room? While we all aspire to a beautiful living room, let’s be honest, aesthetics is only half the equation. Storage is also paramount, and if you currently don’t have any chic hideaways, chances are you’re looking for ways to land some. Here, we share five genius storage options to consider when you’re on the hunt for more living room storage!

Bookshelves

If you haven’t been blessed with built-in bookshelves, don’t fret. Stand-alone bookshelves can easily be worked into a living room layout and offer plenty of storage. When shopping for living room bookshelves, bypass tall, narrow solo units and instead opt for a model that’s wider than it is tall. In a living room, wider pieces tend to be easier to integrate stylistically, plus, they offer more usable storage space.

Credenza

While media cabinets are most homeowners’ go-to for hosting a TV, these units tend to be small-scale and offer little interior storage. A better option for storage can be a credenza. Most credenzas offer ample interior space, which makes them perfect for stowing everything from blankets to art supplies — not just out-of-date DVDs.

Storage ottomans & coffee tables

If your living room floor plan is especially tight, consider making one of your primary furniture pieces a storage option. Shop for a storage coffee table or storage ottomans or benches. Although they’re a little more obscure, it’s also possible to find storage sofas and sectionals with bench seats that lift up to reveal storage compartments.

Baskets

Whether used on a bookshelf or stationed under a console or end table, storage baskets are perfect for corralling all of life’s odds and ends. If you’re not sure what style to select, consider seagrass. Seagrass baskets are beloved by designers for their stylistic versatility and can be easily sourced in small sizes as well as jumbo sizes.

Curio or armoire

If you’re most interested in integrating living room cabinets into your space, consider a curio cabinet or armoire. These large-scale pieces feature doors, with armoires typically featuring closed doors and curio cabinets featuring glass doors.
