London-based interior design firm Katharine Pooley Limited re-designed the interior of this extensive four bedroom private villa in Qatar’s capital city of Doha for a young family with three children. The firm is known for its exquisite attention to detail, which can be seen in all areas of the design, from the beautiful embroidery on the curtains and sofa panels to the bespoke billiards table clad in shagreen to match the doors.

  • Katharine Pooley Limited (KPL) created a remarkable entrance to the home by installing a bespoke chandelier which cascades through the center of a show-stopping solid brass and glass balustrade.

  • The art deco geometric design of the balustrade was re-interpreted and extended to other design details throughout the house, including four impressive wall lights that encase the entrance hall columns. Bespoke doors with bronze detailing were designed by KPL and manufactured by established and highly respected joinery companies in the United Kingdom.

  • Entertainment space was high on the client's list of priorities so KPL created spectacular spaces for the client and their extensive family and friends to enjoy. These spaces include the Moroccan room, designed predominantly as a female zone for the client's wife to relax in and entertain friends. A hanging ottoman and long sofas add a glamorous touch reminiscent of design found within Moroccan riads. Verre églomisé doors give a little privacy when needed, while allowing an inviting glow from the lanterns to be visible from the hallway.

  • All finishes in the room were carried out by local craftsmen. Gold leaf is used on the ceiling to add richness and depth to the scheme. Clusters of lanterns and the main pendant light were designed especially for the space and hung at a low level to cast fantastic shadows on the stucco walls, adding an element of drama to the room.

  • In the formal living room, shades of taupe, burnished copper and slate grey are combined with neutral tones to create a sumptuous and inviting space. Various textures and an abundance of elegant textiles give the room depth and an understated luxurious quality. The bespoke-designed Verre églomisé panels behind the sofas finish the scheme by adding a touch of subtle metallic glamour.

  • Intricate details, such as beautiful hand-embroidery on the sofa, and other rich finishes create a polished room that showcases an expert eye for detail. Layered cushions invite relaxation and soften the structured lines of the sofas.

  • The formal dining room is the perfect place to entertain and host intimate dinner parties. From the embroidery on the chairs to the delicate yet opulent chandelier, the scheme exudes a calm decadence. The color palette is a pared back combination of soft taupes and pastel greys, which creates a smart and refined aesthetic.

  • In the informal living room, a muted palette of grey and blue is lifted with copper highlights and metallic detailing in the furniture and textiles. The large television is the center of the scheme, and the room is arranged to accommodate ample relaxation.

  • In the master bedroom and dressing room the use of opulent textures, such as solid rose wood and silver stained velum with nickel accents, creates a space to which the clients can retreat from their demanding international schedules.

  • KPL created bedrooms and playroom areas tailored to each user’s individual personality and interests. For this young boy’s bedroom, a youthful color scheme of blue and green was chosen, which is equally vibrant and soothing. Furniture was kept minimal in order to provide maximum room for play, and soft textiles and lines are used to create an inviting and safe environment for a child.

  • This room is the ultimate little girl’s bedroom. The bed is the focal point, and the fabric canopy gives an air of grandeur while being age appropriate. The intricately cut headboard adds an unexpected detail. The pink color scheme is youthful and feminine, and the layering of textiles and the addition of pattern elements creates a more relaxed space.
