What Is A Secretary Desk Used For?

Cozy bedroom with yellow patterned bed and wood secretary desk

Despite the name, secretary desks are no longer *exclusively* used by secretaries. Use secretary desks as a statement piece, or keep them tucked away in an alcove or the end of a hallway to maximize your space.

These desks are super versatile, featuring storage and a workspace all-in-one. They can be a great addition in any room of the house, from bedrooms to living rooms and even kitchens. In general, there are two types of secretary desks: low and high. Low secretary desks consist of a base of wide drawers and a hinged desktop surface that can be folded up or down. High secretary desks have an additional top bookcase with closable glass or wood doors. The latter are perfect for storage and display, allowing you to hide away any unsightly items (receipts…to-do lists…. bills…) and show off curated decor or collections.
