What are the average dining room table dimensions?

Most dining room tables are made following standard measurements. The standard width is 36″ to 40,” while the standard height is 28″ to 31″ tall. The length depends on the number of people you plan to seat. Tables for a maximum of 4 to 6 people are usually 68″ to 72″; 6 to 8 seats are 72″ to 80″; 8 to 10 seats are 80″ to 92″; and 10 to 12 seat tables are 92″ to 110″ long. The general rule is to allow 1 foot of space per person you intend to seat and 2 to 3 feet on each side of the table for space.

Standard round table measurements adhere to a similar width and height as rectangular tables, but their length also depends on the number of seats. To seat 2 to 4 people, a round dining table with a diameter of 36″ to 44″ will do the job. Tables for 4 to 6 people should have a 54″ to 60″ diameter, and a table with at least a 72″ diameter can accommodate 6 to 8 people.

Generally, oval tables occupy a 36″ to 44″ diameter. Tables for 4 seats are usually 30″ to 60″ long, while tables for 6 seats are 60″ to 72″. For 8 people, the table should be 72″ to 84″ long. A table appropriate for large gatherings that can seat 12 to 14 people should be at least 96″ long.
