Originally from Denver, Colorado, he has spent over a decade living in Cologne, Germany,
Copenhagen, Denmark, and Stockholm, Sweden. His work is often influenced by Post WWII secondary
art movements that he discovered while living aboard. These movements are the Supports/Surfaces,
Spatialism, Capitalist Realism, and more recent movements like painting in the expanded field.
Eric Wall’s paintings explore the materiality of the canvas and challenge our expectations of what a
painting is expected to be. His paintings are meticulously hand-cut using a hobby knife. A single painting
is often stretched, painted, unstretched, hand-cut, painted, restretched, and painted again. They reach a
state of resolution through this repetitive process of addition and
subtraction.
Eric’s work is represented by Gallery Duerr in Stockholm, Sweden. His work has been exhibited at the
Hyde Park Art Center, Chicago, Martos Gallery, New York, Westwerk Hamburg, Germany, Green is Gold,
Copenhagen, and Vermilion Sands, Copenhagen, Avesta Konsthall, Sweden, and Colorado State
University, Space Gallery, Denver.
His paintings can be found in both Private and Corporate collections in the US, Europe, and South
America.
