Sutter Antiques has been featured in publications such as Elle Decor and House Beautiful, and in the book "Fresh Cuts" by Edwina Vongal. Architectural Digest listed Sutter Antiques as one of the top 100 sources for Interior Designers.

Swiss born antiques dealer Alfons Sutter opened the first Sutter Antiques in London at the prestigious Kings Road Market in 1973. In 1976 he moved his business to the Flatiron district in New York City where he specialized in Oriental furniture and objects. He and his long time business associate, Frank Rosa, would spend their weekends driving through the Hudson River Valley antiquing.

In 1990, after falling in love with Columbia County, they decided to relocate to Hudson and in 1995 a second shop, 20th Century Gallery, opened specializing in mid-century modern art and furniture. In 2007 both entities were merged under one banner – Sutter Antiques.

Alfons’ keen sense of style and eye for beauty, quality and the unusual, along with his passion for acquiring has yielded a vast collection of decorative objects, lighting and furniture from the Biedermeir, Empire and Art deco periods as well as items from the mid-20th century. Frank Rosa has appeared in the magazine New York Spaces and on the television show Designer Living hosted by Interior Designer Sheila Bridges.
