October 2021: West Hollywood design innovator Jeffrey Perkins is slowly weaving himself into the fabric of the LA design scene. Gifted with a preternatural sense of polish and potential, his mind overflows with creative ways to spruce up, deconstruct, or elevate every corner, niche, wall, and room of the home.
Perkins specializes in light fixtures, wall treatments, furniture restoration, and custom cabinetry. His clientele -- ranging from Beverly Hills sophisticates to members of the Downtown LA art set to WeHo tastemakers -- marvel at his bohemian mix of unconventional materials and nuanced sense of color.
"He's just one of those people who sees potential where others just see problems," says Anne K., a marketing exec who tapped Perkins to revamp the kitchen and living room of her Santa Monica home. "I used to be a little embarrassed by my house, and now I love showing it off."
One of Jeffrey's hallmarks is raw material manipulation -- drawing out exquisite colors and textures in wood and copper through an array of experimental techniques. He has created everything from dramatic lighting features to textured accent walls to a series of decorative copper flowers -- beautiful ornamental pieces to be passed down between generations. Meanwhile, his understated handmade wreaths are becoming a perennial must for LA style-setters at holiday time.
Perkins is also a masterful interior designer, adept at sourcing one-of-a-kind home goods and accessories that pull any room together. While some people study design theory ad nauseum and produce predictable, conventional interiors, others like Perkins are simply born with great taste, cultivating an organic style all their own as they make their way through life.
"I don't know where inspiration comes from," Perkins says. "All I know is, I have to run with it when it comes. If I ignore a strong impulse to create, it gnaws at me. But when I follow it where it leads me, great things tend to happen."
