Vintage; late 50s-60s, Mid-Century era rare and large, red ceramic plaster bull with stylized pinwheel glazed eyes, in a fanned … more Vintage; late 50s-60s, Mid-Century era rare and large, red ceramic plaster bull with stylized pinwheel glazed eyes, in a fanned gold color with a center mint pupil coloration. Reminiscent of, or in the manner of, and lending itself to the stylized popular Italian Bitossi ceramic plaster bulls. There are distinctive differences, except for the feet which have similar shaped proportions. The body has a black matte glazed undercoat with a distinctive turkey red glazed overlay. Overall the upper body has scratch coat or cross-hatched design details, with large swathes of smoothened or formed areas along the contours of lower body. There is also a fabulous fish scale design motif along a serpentine spinal column, from the back of the bull horns meandering and undulating along the path of the the bulls back towards the buttocks area, including a stylized curled tail. Feet are protected with felt, original and is found condition. There are remnants of a Minoan design esthetic to this bull sculpture. Makers mark along one of inset back of leg, as image indicates, but indiscernible. Depending upon desired direction width and depth will vary. From a Sarasota, Florida Estate. In great condition for era, use and manufacture, except there seems to be an area near the right back upper hip, of a crack in the finish, but seem s as if it occurred during the glazing,firing process, otherwise great
