moreA set of four antique hand colored architectural engravings from Seats Of The Nobility And Gentry - originally part of a series of 84 copper engravings by William Watts (1752-1851) in black and gold reverse painted glass & gilt wood frames.
The set includes: New Hall in Essex, the Seat of Lord Waltham ~ drawn by James Lutrell 1779 Appuldurcombe Park in the Isle of Wight, the Seat of Sir Richard Worsley, Baronet ~ drawn by A. Devis ~ 1780 Houghton in Norfolk, the Seat of the Earl of Orford ~ 1782 Wolterton in Norfolk, the Seat of Lord Walpole ~ from a drawing by Humphrey Repton ~ 1783
The engravings are all in very good condition with a few tiny (pin-head size) dark spots in the margins and light foxing on the Houghton print. The reverse painting on glass and gilt frames are also in good condition with wear/ chips to the gilt in some spots. One frame is missing some of the decorative beading on the front (see photo). less
