These Buddhas are known as standing Buddhas. There are four main Buddha mudras/poses. The standing Buddha is rising to teach after reaching nirvana and is indicative of being stationary, with both feet planted firmly side-by-side. During this position, the Buddha has stopped, and the reason for this halt can be determined by the mudra of the hands. Abhaya Mudra is a hand gesture that represents protection, benevolence, and fearlessness. It’s a variation of Gyan mudra right hand is lifted to the chest level and slightly raised outward, palm facing forward. Left-arm is hanging downward while facing the sky beside the body. Most often, the standing Buddha is repelling conflict or rising from meditation to teach the Four Noble Truths after reaching nirvana.

One of the statues has a Buddhist symbol carved into the bottom of the base.

They all came from one Buddhist temple in China. They are 19th century or older. They have black singe marks from being exposed to fire. We will sell the pair of Buddhas without the floor lamp bases and shades. If you would like to purchase just the statues, please message us and we can adjust the listing to only the Buddhas (without shades or lamp bases/rods). The shades do wobble and are converted pendant lights.

The Buddhas are made of layers of different things… wood, clay with polychrome, etc…

The gray-blue macrame-like woven shades, old brass finials and harps are included. The finials are not really seen and are to hold the shades in place. We have used clear light bulbs, which look chic when the lights are turned on.

The floor lamp wooden bases and metal rods have wear, ie. scratches, chips, bent. A gold marker has been used to touch up the brass finished rods. The shades have been somewhat rigged to stay still, but they still will lean. The antique Buddhas are very old and do have wear, ie. chips, etc… Please see photos. They have black singe marks from being exposed to fire. The black will rub off. Occasionally, we have detected a hint of a fire smell… this is all an important part of their history considering numerous times Chinese officials and other invaders burned Buddhist temples.
