A wonderful 1920-1926 French art deco hanging fixture in wrought iron with a nice Schneider (Le Verre Français) shade in mottled colored cameo glass. This model is called Chicorées (Chicory). Schneider made vases table lamps and chandeliers with this pattern. The bowl on offer is done in pale-yellow overlaid with green and red. The chicorées pattern also exists in green and brown colors and in a version of yellow and green on a pink base. I show a picture of a chicorées vase in the book on Schneider by Joulin and Maier.
The beautiful bowl is held by the original Schneider fixture in wrought iron. Schneider employed a blacksmith and had his own forge on his compound in Epinay France. Here wrought iron mounts for vases were made as well as fixtures for night lamps perfume burners and chandeliers. The typical shape of the Schneider forged iron pieces is easy to recognize. Note the way the chains were done. The early fixtures the blacksmith of Schneider made had this model chain made in bent double wire. Later in 1926 (after the death of Louis Majorelle) Schneiders blacksmith copied the chains of Majorelle pendant light mounts that Majorelle made with Daum bowls. The Schneider version is a bit smaller than the Majorelle ones. In the late 20s Schneiders production exploded. And this new majorelle style chain was a lot easier read faster to produce in higher volumes.
The bowl is signed with the usual Berlingot sign. A berlingot is one of the oldest traditional hard sweets from France that inspired Schneider for this signature in the colors of the French flag and the shape of a small banner, see last picture.
The pendant has a total height of 56,5 cm (22-1/4"). And the bowl has a diameter of 34,5 cm (13,6"). The lamp is in excellent condition. The iron mount has a nice deep brown almost black patina. It is rewired with three American candelabra base sockets.
