Born into seven siblings, father a professor of literature, she moved to Paris in 1955 to escape the post-war atmosphere in Germany. She married the painter Jean Berthet, danced at the Folies Bergères to earn a living and continued violin lessons at the Paris Conservatoire. It was not until 1963 that she decided to enroll at the Beaux-Arts in Paris. She first moved to the Salon de la Jeune Sculpture where she felt close to the sculptors Daniel Pontoreau, Léonardo Delfino, Charles Semser, Danielle Gibrat. Then at the Salon de Mai where she met painters like Hugh Weiss and Yvon Taillandier.Irmgard remarries Thierry Sigg. Their great love of art often takes them to distant lands: to Egypt, Greece, Turkey, eight times to India and Southeast Asia.In 1974, Irmgard found a workshop in Paris in the 9th arrondissement. She exhibits regularly at the Darthea Speyer gallery, she rubs shoulders with Léon Golub, Roseline Granet, Christiane Durand.Having successively practiced stone, wood, cement, resin, the artist then uses mixed techniques such as steel, bronze and wrought iron of plaster and fabric, moving boldly from one medium to another. other to be as close as possible to his imagination. His work always has a monumental dimension even when the works are of modest size. Spatial and environmental structures: stepping stones, passages, volcanoes metamorphose in a surreal way and shake up our industrialized daily life.In 1979, his installation "castle of non-place" was an exciting adventure, significant of his approach using the ephemeral in an experimental way to move towards the perennial work. In 1982, she won the Caen symposium but her project met with hostility from the population. 1984 saw her take part in the Renault factory symposium with Cragg, Woodrow, Bartoli, Skoda, Briggs. She competed for the development of the space of the Minguettes towers in Venissieux in 1985 but the competition was canceled despite the interest of the proposed projects, ex. Jean-Pierre Raynaud, etc. Irmgard won the competition organized in 1990 for a monument in Bobigny dedicated to the French Resistance: Arc de mémoire. She burns her hand with flaming liquid wax. The installation "Sharing the proofs" was created in 1995 for the Fernand Léger gallery in Ivry-sur-Seine. - Upon inspection, If you decide not to move forward with the purchase, you or your agent must refuse the item at the time of pickup/delivery from the seller
