This is a scarce First Edition … more Here's a vintage jewel for collectors and admirers of antique and vintage photography books. This is a scarce First Edition of 'Diary of Jacques Henri Lartigue.' This oversized, gold, softcover/wrappers Monograph was edited by Richard Avedon and published in 1970 by The Viking Press. Lartigue, a French photographer and painter, photographed for many years. He was "discovered" 1962, and had his first exhibit, in 1963, at the Museum of Modern Art,New York City. Critics praised his "charming" photographs for their seemingly candid and joyful moments. Lartigue's photographs were a radical departure from the formal, posed portraits of. early photography . And many of them are so surprising! One of his greatest fans, and later dear friend, was photographer Richard Avedon, .who regarded Lartigue as something of a mentor. Lartigue was made a French Chevalier of the Legion of Honour in 1975. This is First printing was reprinted 1978. Here are many of his stunning and evocative, b/w photos,.showing time passing through diffferent decades. Also, here, are snippets of the handwritten diary he always kept. Lartigue described his photography as "a magic thing." This magician, born in 1894, died in 1986 in Nice, but his photographs live on. This book is in very good vintage condition - clean, bright, unmarked. The only notes are the original, protective glassine cover is torn in spots. (I chose not to remove it.) and some mild vintage wear to the cover edges. This impressive book will be sent carefully packed and boxed with tracking. less

- Chairish Freight Delivery
