moreHere's a set of two gorgeous vintage classic books: "Gone with the Wind" and "The Three Musketeers"' These 24K Gold-decorated leatherette hardcovers were published circa 1980 by The International Collectors Library. These two classic, richly decorated books make a stunning statement for shelf or tabletop.
This copy of "Gone with the Wind" by Margaret Mitchell is 733 pages, and housed in a William Morris binding re-created by American artist, Rafael Palacios. The leaf-and-acorn design done in 24K gold was crafted after a design by Morris, who created the original cover for Thomas More's "Utopia" in 1893. "Utopia" was printed by Morris at his famed Kelmscott Press. A description of "Gone with the Wind" (1936) and the special Morris binding is described in a loose page, found with this book. This book is in very good, unmarked condition. It has an attached blue ribbon book marker.
"The Three Musketeers" by Alexandre Dumas is 628 pages, and housed in a Madame de Pompadour binding, also re-created by American artist, Rafael Palacios. The original binding design was the work of Nicolas-Denis Derome of Paris, for a copy of "Poesies de Malherbe," owned by Madame de Pompadour. She was an educated woman, with an extensive library, and also the mistress of Louis XV. A description of "The Three Musketeers" and the 24K Gold enhanced binding comes with this book. It has an attached ribbon marker. The book is in very good, unmarked condition, with the exception of a worn seam along the spine edge. less
