Blesard, Sunrise from My Lodging Room Window.A superb watercolour, darkly brooding with Romantic imaginative sensibility.The artist is believed to be Robert John Blesard (1809–1839) of Woodhouse, Leeds, son of a woollen merchant and descendent of the prominent Quaker Blesard family of Guiseley. This watercolour was executed during an 1834 tour of Yorkshire, painted at sunrise from the artist's lodging rooms on 7th October. Blesard imbues the scene with Gothic drama by exaggerating the sense of light and dark, and positioning a theatrical curtain and open fairytale book manuscript in the foreground.with gum arabic to intensify the colour.All artworks come with a Certificate of Authenticity and—if it is a collection artwork—its accompanying collection text or artist biography.
