This charming French quilt dates from circa 1860-1880! One side uses a wonderful embroidered-look floral printed cotton and linen fabric, the other side uses a red and pink floral design! In the center of the front fabric, this textile has either been patched with a much less faded ground of the same fabric, or it was intentional designed to have the same fabric, but with a different colored ground. This creates what is called a &"fenetre&", or window design. This outer quilt is very beautiful, but underneath there is another earlier quilt (seems to date to c1830) that has A gorgeous small scale design that you can see through some holes in the outer layers of this textile! This quilt could be unpicked for use of all of the fabric included, or it can be enjoyed as is! There is a thin batting in the underneath quilt, likely cotton or wool. (E472)
Measurements: This lovely textile measures approx. 81.5 inches by approx. 68 inches
Condition: This textile is in as found, not freshly laundered condition. There are at least two small holes in the embroidered-look side of this textile where you can see through to the underneath quilt. Both sides are faded, the front more unevenly so. The edges are worn with some very small holes. There are some pale marks on both sides, and perhaps some small stains that may or may not wash on the red side. I recommend dry cleaning.
