Shodai-yaki, is a style of high-iron Japanese stoneware that originated in the northern part of Kumamoto prefecture during the Edo-period. Shodai ware pieces are known for their bold shapes, simplicity, and rustic charm, embodying the beauty of nature in their organic forms and textures.
This practical confectionery dish has a wonderful “nagashi-kake” on the interior, where white-ash glaze has transformed in the kiln to freestyle pools of pale blue.
