Incredibly sweet, Federal period stitch needlework sampler. Original wool and silk stitching with images of heaven including deer, flowers and a church. Hand stitched in bold colors on ecru cloth.
Poem at top reads "Tis religion that can give.... Sweetest Pleasures while we live.....Tis Religion must supply.. Solid comforts when we die..... After death it joys will be lasting as eternity."
Stitched at base "Jane Gage aged 10 years. Anno Domini 1807.
Framed in period mahogany frame. Frame measures 16 1/2" x 20 1/2". Excellent condition, minor discoloration, frame has some wear along the edges.
