This is a set of four American Federal-era mahogany bedposts and a headboard.
The bedposts date from around 1800 and are from New England. All four are carved in the same tapered and scrolled manner. They come with detachable tops. The bedposts are 89 inches high and the tops are 9 inches high. The bedposts are 6 inches round.
The headboard is also of mahogany. It is 60 inches wide, 31 inches high and one inch thick. It was acquired separately from the bedposts but has been used in our family together with them, on a queen/king size beds, for years.
This set can be used for a twin-size bed, as well.
All these pieces were acquired by my parents, US diplomats, in the early 1970s in Washington, DC.
