The rafia is intact and in good condition but the surrounding raffia on the round top tends to look "windblown" versus "groomed". This chair has premiered in museums and listed on home collectors sites for over $20k. I have moved it with me since acquiring it in 1989. It is in very good condition but not pristine. less

French designers Elizabeth Garouste and Mattia Bonetti created this limited edition painted wood and raffia chair named the "Prince Imperial" chair. Hand-painted design on the seat and back with raffia surrounding both. Rare. Signed. Good condition.
"Inspired by African tribal art, the Prince Impérial chair by Elizabeth Garouste and Mattia Bonetti (Swiss, born 1952) is as far away from European modernist industrial design as can be imagined. Created to provide an alternative to that dominant genre the couple utilised natural materials and craft techniques in an imaginative way. The intention was to suggest another direction for contemporary furniture, one that was more symbolic, artistic, expressive and individualistic."
