moreThis is a fantastic authentic vintage black womb chair made by Knoll in 1967 based on the 1948 design by Eero Saarinen, the architect of the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, MO. and designer of many mid-century modern iconic designs.
The chair is incredibly comfortable - the design goal was to create a chair that was so relaxing it made you feel as if you had returned to the comfort of your mother's womb.
This chair is upholstered in its original black naugahyde which is in excellent condition. The only imperfection is a small area of wear on the back ridge where the fabric pieces meet. This would be completely hidden if the chair was placed in a corner or against a wall.
The solid metal base is as sturdy as it was when first made. The four original self-leveling feet glides are intact and their subtle tilting action provides a stable footing. Only part of the original tag remains, but when compared to a complete tag, it is undoubtedly authentic.
