moreIntended as a Tribute to Art, this oversized hardcover, Masters of Modern Art, was published in 1958 by The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York. Edited by Alfred H. Barr, Jr., the book was distributed by Doubleday. This a Third edition, published to celebrate MOMA's 25th Anniversary. Inside, you'll find detailed descriptions of the artists and art MOMA selected from among thousands of works held by the Museum. There are 356 plate illustrations ( 77 in color) in this 240-page book. Paintings, Sculpture, Drawings and Prints are included. This is a picture book, but also a dream book, as it inspires, stimulates and soothes. It's the next best thing to seeing the great art in person. The book text is in overall very good, unmarked condition. The glossy jacket is worn but intact; smudged and wrinkled on the front and the front jacket leaf. There's also a creased corner on the inside first free end page, where the former owner left a name. The book jacket shows more age than the contents; the plates are bright and bold. This single book is a MidCentury treasure. The art inside speaks volumes. less
