moreNo one is really sure how these cabinets came to be named after Martha Washington; the style didn't come around until 1815, and she died in 1804. This particular cabinet is a 1920's or 1930's reproduction, and has been beautifully painted a shabby chic white on the outside, with the lovely mahogany finish left intact on the inside for contrast. Martha Washington cabinets are known for the two side pouches and a series of small drawers down the center. While you can certainly put it to use as a sewing cabinet, this makes a great catch-all entryway piece as well, or a nightstand, with bedtime reading in its roomy side pockets.
