EVERYTHING TO KNOW ABOUT MILO BAUGHMAN FURNITURE

Considered one of the greatest modern furniture designers, Milo Baughman’s genius became apparent quite early on in life. Legend has it that at age 13, teenage Milo was put in charge of decorating the interior and exterior of his parents’ SoCal home. Consider our adult selves impressed! During his career, Milo Baughman partnered with a number of big names in furniture business, such as Directional and Drexel, before finding the partnership that will go on to redefine furniture design: Milo Baughman and Thayer Coggin. And what a partnership is was! For 50 years Milo Baughman and Thayer Coggin worked together to produce some of the most delicious furniture designs. So good, in fact, that they're still coveted even today. Milo Baughman strongly believed in that positive effect good design could have on peoples' lives. He practiced what he preached and created furniture that was functional to the hilt.

4 Hallmarks of Milo Baughman Design

Parsons: When you think of functionality, the first thing that comes to mind is the Milo Baughman Parsons collection. At first glance, the Parsons collection may seem incredibly simple (the style's hallmark is table and chair legs that are flush with the edges of the table tops and seats), but little details like rounded corners or luxurious finishes like lacquer, burl wood, or brass make the style the perfect melding of function and glamour. Easy way to up the lounge game? We think so!

Sectional: Milo Baughman invented the sectional. Well, kind of. He designed numerous sectionals during his time at Thayer Coggin. At the time, furniture by Milo Baughman was relatively inexpensive (today you pay for the bragging rights as well!) and his sectional sofas were widely admired. Top picks include the Design Classic 825 Sectional and Anna Conda. The semi-circular 825 Sectional is classic (hey, it’s in the name!) and is a timeless piece. The more adventurous option, Anna Conda, is so stylish and comfortable that you wouldn’t move even when cornered by your mother-in-law (yes, it's that good). Pair it up with cushions or leave it bare—Milo’s sofas do their own PR.

Chrome: Milo Baughman loved chrome and we are so on board! Chrome was used to create the box-shaped bases of his iconic furniture—think credenzas, coffee tables, and dining chairs. Among his most desired chrome creations are his chrome credenzas, considered today to be top drawer examples of Hollywood Regency style. Chrome blends beautifully with a multitude of styles and is guaranteed to give chrome give virtually every room a little lift. The fact that chrome is also spill-friendly is the clincher, in our opinion.

Burl Wood: Milo Baughman designed a lot of his early work in wood. Later on, he preferred to use other materials like chrome, but he continued to have a soft spot for burl wood. He frequently used this highly decorative wood in coffee tables, making them into gorgeous accent pieces. We can just see a Milo Baughman burl wood coffee table bringing the ultra luxe cabin feels to any city abode.
