Oil Paintings & Other Art for your Home

If you’re looking for vintage-inspired art for your home, oil paintings have likely crossed your radar. Whether it’s a landscape, portrait, or abstract, oil paintings have the unique ability to add interest and time-honed character. Of course, oil paintings aren’t the only options available, and if you’re looking for a piece of art that provides plenty of texture and interest, you might also consider drawings and photography.

Oil paintings

Oil paintings are generally one-of-a-kind works of art made by artists working with oil paints. Oil paints are generally thick and can be built up to create dimension and texture. Since oil paints have been in existence for centuries, it’s possible to find oil paintings from virtually every era and in every style. From Flemish still lifes to modern abstract expressionist paintings, oil paintings can be procured in a wide array of styles to give your room a chic and unique look.

Drawings

While not as bold and impactful as oil paintings, drawings can be used to add subtle interest to a room. Since drawings generally possess thinner line work, they won’t garner attention across a room the way an abstract oil painting might, but they can make a dramatic impact when grouped in multiples or matted or framed in dramatic colors or finishes.

Photography

Photography is a newer invention, and for that reason, most photographs will be more modern in style. That said, they can still be used in traditional rooms to create interesting visual tension. Photographs can be sourced in both color and black and white options. Black and white options are extremely versatile and can be mixed and matched with virtually any interior, while integrating color photographs will generally require more design legwork or planning.
