How do you make a futon more comfortable?

The best way to make a futon more comfortable for sleeping is to apply additional layers, such as featherbeds and memory foam toppers (or, in a pinch: refashioning an outdoor sleeping pad). Because futon mattresses are foldable, they do not provide the support that traditional mattresses do. Featherbeds, which are fluffy, feather-filled pads designed to support the body’s pressure points, such as the head, shoulders, and back, can provide the extra layer of support that futon mattresses are lacking. In fact, featherbeds are an integral part of many luxury hotel bed set-ups! Go with a higher feather count to cue up the most comfortable experience. Memory foam toppers are similar to featherbeds but are filled with a latex foam rubber that conforms to the body. Since both featherbeds and memory foam toppers are rollable, they can easily be stowed in a nearby closet during the day and deployed on top of your futon mattress come bedtime.
